Article 1 / Organization of the Biennale

The Tangible Image Biennale is organized by the association of the same name, domiciled at 9 rue des Deux Gares 75010 Paris.

The Biennale de l'Image Tangible proposes to present in various exhibition venues in eastern Paris and the Marais a selection of works that tend to emancipate themselves from a classic approach to the photographic medium. The dates of the festival are between November 1 and December 03, 2023.

Alongside a flagship exhibition organized under the artistic direction of the organizers, a series of exhibitions is organized in partner venues. A call for competition is launched for artists to participate in the Biennale and exhibit in the satellite spaces selected by the organization. A jury of personalities from the world of art and photography will be responsible for examining the applications. This jury is independent of the organization and its decisions are sovereign.
A public award with the laureates will be set up on Instagram in October 2023.

Article 2 / Theme, orientation

Proposals must necessarily address new uses, languages ​​and photographic practices. Capture techniques other than photographic cameras are accepted. Mixed techniques are accepted, on the sole condition that the works are part of an approach related to photography. Printing on materials other than paper is accepted, as well as projects broadcast on screen or projected video.

Article 3 / Terms of participation

Applications are to be sent exclusively via the online participation form on the www.bit20.paris website. They will be composed of a series of 1 to 6 visuals maximum, the description of the project (1500 characters maximum) and the techniques used. Several projects may be submitted to the jury, in which case they must be the subject of separate applications.
The title of the series, a presentation text in French or in English, a technical description and a CV/biography and the complete contact details of the candidate must imperatively appear.
Participation in the competition implies that each artist has the rights and authorizations necessary for the distribution of their works. Otherwise, the Tangible Image Biennale cannot be held liable.

Article 4 / Conditions of participation

The competition is open to everyone and without any limitation. However, the artists selected for the previous edition cannot compete for the next one. The images submitted must necessarily reflect new uses, languages ​​and photographic practices. The theme is free.

The opening date for registration is scheduled for February 28, 2023, and the closing of the call on April 28, 2023 at midnight subject to modifications. The results will be announced in June 2023 on the Biennale website. Selected candidates will be contacted individually.

Candidates will pay a contribution to the costs of twenty euros, paid to the Biennale de l'Image Tangible association, in order to cover the costs of managing the files. Payment will only be made via PayPal on the dedicated registration page on the site.

The organization is responsible for providing partner exhibition venues in the 20th arrondissement of Paris and the Marais district. It is solely responsible for allocating spaces for each artist in association with partner venues. For this reason and in consultation with the latter, it is likely to adapt the number of works according to the chosen location.

The works are likely to be put up for sale and the venues, in particular the partner galleries, are free to apply or not a sales commission on the condition of having agreed the rate with the selected artists, a contract will be signed in this sense between the artist and the place of exhibition. The organization will facilitate the discussions but will not be party to the contract. The organization therefore does not take any commission on any sales, and cannot be held liable in the event of a dispute.

The organization promotes the event through the press, web or any other means of dissemination. The selected participants authorize the association to use the visuals of their works free of charge for the purposes of communication and promotion of BIT20 as well as for the organization of the public prize on Instagram. They therefore authorize its free distribution on all web, press, publishing, catalog and display media for the duration of the event and its promotion as well as that of the second edition. And permanently on the organization's website for archiving purposes. Candidates retain full ownership of all their other rights.

A catalog of all selected artists will be published, each laureate will receive a copy.

The laureates will be informed of the jury's decisions by email.

All selected participants will benefit from a permanent gallery of their works on the site www.bit20.paris.

All selected participants will be paid for the right of representation. The amount will be equal to Adagp's funding and distributed equitably among the winners selected by the biennale.

The winners are responsible for transporting their works to date and to the exhibition venues in Paris. The delivery address will be specified to them in due time. The organization pays for the insurance of the works for the duration of the exhibition. It does not cover the production costs of the exhibited works.

Article 5 / Jury - Prize - Methods of award

A jury composed of professionals of the image and the photography will meet during the month of May 2023 to designate the participants in the biennale.

The candidates who meet the conditions of participation will be presented to the members of the jury who will elect without appeal 30 artists who will participate in the Biennale and will be exhibited in the various partner places and on the various communication media.

An audience award on Instagram will be organized ahead of the exhibitions and will designate a winner among the participants. The prize will be equipped with photographic equipment, a production or services offered by the sponsors and partners of the event.

Article 6 / Personal data

To enter the competition, candidates must provide certain information about them.

Except in case of cancellation, this information will be saved and will be the subject of an automated processing in accordance with the law 78-17 6 January 1978 modified "computer and freedoms".

Under this law, participants have a right to access, modify, rectify and delete data concerning them for a legitimate reason and by justifying their identity.

Article 7 / Warranties - Claims

The organization reserves the right to suspend, postpone or cancel the contest without notice in case of force majeure or any other event rendering its organization impossible. The sums collected as a contribution to costs remain acquired for the benefit of the association Biennale de l'Image Tangible.

The author confirms that he / she has read the entire rules and accepts them and agrees to respect them. Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of the rules. Unplanned cases are the sole responsibility of the organizers.
